Entertainment in Paris to thrill and delight this summer
Entertainment in Paris this summer is our newsletter's subject this month - and we recommend a free music festival in the streets, some world-class jazz played outdoors, a fabulous funfair fit for all the family - and the newly reopened Paris Zoo, all within easy reach of Sport Hotel.
Music festivals and fun fair
If you're in Paris on June 21st, you're in for a real treat. Fete de la Musique - the Festival of Music - takes place all day. On every street corner and in the most unlikely of venues there's free music provided by amateur and professional musicians.Just step out of Sport Hotel and follow the sounds that attract you. Fete de la Musique was introduced by the famous French "Minister of Rock", Jack Lang, in 1982 and has since spread all over the world.
Music fans will also want mark 7 June to 27 July in their diaries. These are the dates of this year's Paris Jazz Festival, near our hotel in the Parc Floral de Paris. Celebrating 20 years this summer, the Paris Jazz Festival attracts some of the greats in the jazz world from the Cameroonian saxophonist Manu Dibango to the renowned violinist Didier Lockwood and the great Cuban pianist Roberto Fonseca.
The perfect family attraction this summer is in the Jardin des Tuileries. The Fete des Tuileries, from 28 June to 24 August, brings a giant funfair to one of the most beautiful parks in the city. There's everything from a Ferris Wheel to roundabouts and bumper cars, and of course there's candy floss too!
Paris hotel near Zoological Park to see new approach
Everyone enjoys a visit to the zoo - especially when it's one of the world's finest. The Paris Zoological Park, first opened in 1934, has just had a multi-million euro makeover to turn it into one of the world's most important centres of conservation and biodiversity. Hundreds of animals are on display in environments which mimic their natural habitats. A visit is now far more than just a day's entertainment, because the Paris Zoo, located in the city's biggest park, now tells us why and how we need to preserve the planet's wildlife for future generations to enjoy.
