Family outings in Paris; discover the aquarium and the zoo
Enjoyable and educational family activities to try during your stay at the Hotel Interlude should definitely include visits to the Aquarium at the Palais de la Porte Dorée and the Zoo de Vincennes. You can reach both of these locations quickly and easily from our hotel.
Dive into the Aquarium of the Palais de la Porte Dorée
The Palais de la Porte Dorée is a delightful Art Deco exhibition hall dating from 1931. Built for the International Colonial Exposition, today it houses a museum devoted to immigration history. There is also something very interesting in the basement; the oldest aquarium in Paris! Here you can discover the diversity and richness of the underwater world, and meet over 5,000 denizens of the deep belonging to over 300 different species, including clown fish, sea anemones, stingrays, barracudas and piranhas, along with some extremely rare specimens of aquatic biodiversity. The aquatic fauna of the tropics is particularly well represented in this superb collection that is distributed throughout 84 tanks as well as 2 terrariums; one for turtles and another of 135m2 accommodating a fearsome selection of crocodiles and alligators. The aquarium also regularly presents themed photographic exhibitions devoted to the colourful and mysterious world below the waves.
Your family will love a visit to the Zoo de Vincennes
The Zoo de Vincennes also known as the Parc Zoologique de Paris, is a wonderful place of leisure that is much loved by Parisians, but more importantly it is a place dedicated to biodiversity, conservation, research and the dissemination of knowledge. Founded in 1934 by the Museum National d’Histoire Naturelle, the zoo was showing its age when it was closed for major renovations in 2008. Since then it has undergone a remarkable transformation and now accommodates a thousand animals representing one hundred and eighty species in the best possible conditions for their comfort and welfare, replicating as closely as possible their natural habitats throughout five major geographical zones. This makes a visit to the Zoo de Vincennes a completely immersive experience, allowing visitors to feel as though they are surrounded by nature, while still giving all due consideration to animal welfare.
The trail through the zoo allows the visitor to explore five regions of the world. These biozones recreate the geographical and botanical conditions to be found in Europe, Patagonia, Madagascar, Sahel-Sudan and Amazon-Guyana. The zoo is home to much-loved favourites, including giraffes and wolves, and lesser known wildlife such as wolverines, along with endangered species and those that are subject to international conservation programmes, including the endangered white rhinoceros.
To make the most of these family activities, we recommend our quadruple or connecting rooms. Enjoy Paris as it is meant to be enjoyed; as a family!
