Heritage Days 2019 in the 12th arrondissement
Are you staying with us at the Hotel Interlude during the weekend of the Journées du Patrimoine (Heritage Days) from September 20th to 22nd, 2019? Seize this golden opportunity to discover the capital in a new light! To help you, we’ve selected four themed visits that will help to make this a superb weekend in Paris.
Historic Heritage Days in Bercy
Between the 18th and 19th centuries, Bercy boasted the largest wine market in the world. Today, the 42 cellars of the Court Saint-Émilion are listed in the supplemental inventory of the nation’s Monuments Historiques. Discover them by way of a guided tour and learn the history of the district as well as the wine trade that shaped it, from the elegant homes of the merchants of yesteryear to the venerable warehouses that still rub shoulders with today’s modern buildings. The cobbled squares, wooden terraces and glass, wood and steel architectural features will transport you back in time. As a bonus, you’ll be introduced to the centuries-old tradition of wine barrel rolling!
The bucolic splendour of the Bois de Vincennes
Your Hotel Interlude is located close to one of the capital’s green lungs; the ancient woodland of the Bois de Vincennes. With its arboretum, farms and ornithological reserves, this huge park is a place where you can lose yourself happily for hours. Even better; it, too, will be offering various Heritage Days activities! You can, for example, learn about wild edible plants on a Nature Trail. You’ll also be able to access parts of the École du Breuil horticultural school that are usually off-limits to the public, such as the vegetable garden, orchard, greenhouses, nursery and more. A wealth of green experiences await you on September 20th, 21st and 22nd.
Unusual; abseiling at the Ministry of Finance
Here’s something you’ve not done before! The Ministry of Finance celebrates the 30th anniversary of its Bercy location by offering the public activities that are distinctly unusual. You’ll be surprised right from the reception, where a robot made in France awaits to present the institution and the programme of your day. Various stands will showcase the Ministry’s services. But the highlight of the show is in the main courtyard, which you can admire... from above, by taking a zip line from the terrace of the Hôtel des Ministres to descend the Vauban building. How’s that for unusual?
Family fun at the Caserne de Reuilly
The Caserne de Reuilly, between the Boulevard Diderot, Rue de Reuilly and Rue Chaligny, is a historical monument that has seen many uses, from a royal ice cream factory in the 17th century to a military barracks. Paris Habitat, a social housing association in the capital, has installed new homes in rehabilitated buildings there. Discover them via a fun challenge that will test the puzzle-solving skills of you and your family! This 45-minute escape game involves the history of the building from the time of the 17th century French politician Jean-Baptiste Colbert to today.
