This month art and design are the focus of Hotel L'Interlude's newsletter as the latest contemporary art heads to Paris for FIAC, the International Contemporary Art Fair between 23 October and 26 October, as well as for shows on the Champs Elysées - and the city gears up for Paris Design Week.

A feast for the eyes from some great artists

FIAC is the time when the world's leading art collectors flock to Paris and the spectacular Grand Palais to take a look at the work of hundreds of international modern and contemporary artists featured by 187 leading galleries. This is one of the world's leading art fairs and everything is for sale - at a price. For the casual visitor, a day spent at FIAC is like visiting many galleries at once. It is a privileged preview into the future of contemporary art, with some provocative, unusual works by young artists who are already commanding the attention of both museums and private collectors.

Paris, with its long history of innovation in art, is the perfect place for this art fair.

As you walk around the soaring spaces of the Grand Palais, keep a look out for the serious collectors, ready to spend big money for these new works. Perhaps you will be tempted to buy something for yourself, not just as a momento of an exhilarating visit, but a piece to live with for the rest of your days.

Art Elysées is on at the same time, and has grown from strength to strength. This show is at galleries up and down the grandeur of the Champs Elysées which join forces to showcase the finest modern and contemporary artists and some of the giants of 20th century design.

Immerse yourself in the joys of Paris Design Week

Paris Design Week is a city-wide exhibition of the latest in design, whether it's by established talents or up-and-coming young designers. Across some 180 exhibition spaces, from major stores to tiny art galleries, you will see new ideas in furniture, appliances, vehicles and even food. Paris is a world leader when it comes to new ideas and so it's the ideal venue for this unmissable event. Just take a stroll around the city centre and you will find innovative ideas from some of our most creative minds.
