Tropical aquarium just a short walk from Sport Hotel
A fascinating tropical aquarium housing more than 5,000 sea animals, located in an exquisite art deco building is a great day out for all the family - and it's just a short stroll from your welcoming hosts in Paris, the Sport Hotel.
Sea life in tropical aquarium to astound you
Paris's Aquarium Tropical is in the basement of the Palais de la Porte Dorée, opened for the 1931 Paris Colonial Exhibition. It remains one of the great wildlife attractions of our city. As you approach the building you'll see the fabulous carved exterior by the sculptor Alfred Janniot which features oceans, antelopes, zebras, elephants and snakes. It's a hint that wildlife, in the form of an aquarium, hides beneath this magnificent building.
The Tropical fish tank takes you around the world and under its seas. There's aquatic life from Africa and South America, a crocodile pit as well as piranhas and sharks among many others. Crocodiles have always been among the main attractions at the aquarium and the oldest lived for more than 60 years. Environmental concerns and the quality of life of the more than 300 species at the Aquarium Tropical top the agenda these days and there's been an ongoing renovation programme to provide better living conditions.
